What kind of oil is everyone using?
I am interested in seeing what type of oil everyone is using in their trucks and why. I have always used 10w-30, but I have always owned cars and smaller trucks. This is my first full size truck. Suggestions? I have a 4.6L SCAB, I live in Florida (Extreme heat), I do no towing, and although I drive it like I stole it, I really only use it to get around / work, etc. Any input appreciated. Thanks

Motorcraft 5w-20. I can't help but ask, why do you folks from Florida think it gets extremely hot? We have 45 days average here of over 115 F. There are days when it is still over 105F at the ten o'clock news. My truck is a 4.6 SCrew and it idles a bunch as you don't dare turn off the A/C during the day or it will never cool down the inside. You may want to visit the Oil Forum here and do a search for 153-H . This is the spec concerning the 5w-20 oils. By comparison to the Xw-30's and heavier oils, the 5w-20's are bulletproof. I have one independant individual that we track his F-350 V 10. He pulls a 35' camper trailer all over including mountains and his UOA is rarely double digit for wear metals. And this guy drives this truck mostly on the floor. He runs Motorcraft 5w-20. It holds up extremely good in a high heat environment.

We have a Mercury Mountaineer with a 4.6 and I run 5w-20 Pennzoil, which is 40% group III oil, which is better than alot of the other guy's syn blend or some of other's true synthetic oil's. I also run it in my 2004 5.4 scab. Great oil,I guess that's why amsoil has it listed #4 on their list of oils, rite under the synthetic's.
