4" Mercury Crank

Go into it softly and kinda unsure. "I don't know too much about these parts, does $100 sound right?" Then he can counter with what he really wants for it. It sounds like he wants you to make an offer in the hope that it is higher than he wants to sell it for. So, for your sake, you need to start the negotiation low. John

I agree with John...go in low and work up. Merc cranks on eBay that are represented as serviceable (what does that really mean?) go from about $200 to over $400 (if they're in good shape) so if you can get it for $100 bucks you WIN. If you give 2 bills you did at least okay and if you give much more than that it should be in really good shape and not need much grinding to make it usable. A few years ago you could pick up flathead "stuff" on eBay pretty reasonably but these days much of it gets bid up to the point that it's not that good a deal.
