Davis Unified Ignition

Is the D.U.I worth buying for the 300 I-6? Does it really improve performance at all?

AHH - not on a stock or lightly modified engine. If you have a TFI system a Duraspark or Duraspark/HEI combo ignition will be an improvement.

its a good system really.

almost $300 seems really high at first but it is a complete unit.
when you start adding up a rebuilt distributor, cap, adapter, rotor, coil, control module, duraspark harness (junkyard only) the $300 doesn't look as bad

its not BETTER then a good runing duraspark system but it has cleaner wiring,

if you want to do it for not alot of $$, its possible to trigger a duraspark distributor with a HEI module.

I just did the conversion from an '86 TFI ignition to the duraspark/HEI combo and I couldent be happier. It was simple and I gained about 2 miles to the gallon. With a rebuilt '84 duraspark distributor and a Holley HEI moudule it cost me a little under a $100 to do the whole conversion.

Due to the one wire hook up and readily available GM HEI parts...one will be under my hood with my 4.9L. It might not be the best way or cheapest.....But my motor has a lot going on and in it as well. And I want the custom curve tuned to the dist. that comes with it. I want a hot 300......and someday i will get it done!!! haha....

I don't think anyone is saying anything bad about the D.U.I system. If you have a built 300 it's probably the way to go; but, if you are running a pretty well near stock 300 it's a waste of money. You can get good results with a Duraspark conversion or better with a duraspark/HEI combo for under $100.
