It uses a stepper motor to actuate the "butterfly". Supposedly more reliable. :-18 But is really there to help control emissions & power delivery by letting the computer have a more accurate sense of where the driver has the pedal at.
It also gets it's peak torque at the same RPM as before. So it should have really good low end, but also pull really hard through the higher RPM's due to the variable cam timing. I'm thinking that it is going to be an absolute beast of a motor.
355/455 thats it? Does anyone know if they are using the macaroni exhaust still? I bet new exhaust and a chip or tuner can squeeze out another 25-40 hp. I just had my hopes up for more power than this, 375 and 500 min should have been the goal. Oh and 15 mpg city and 20 hwy. also.. ok I know I was dreaming!
If the electronic throttle control is like what is on the new F150, the gas pedal has no physical connection to the engine. The computer senses the pedal position and actuates the throttle based on position, speed, etc...
I wonder what the MPG will be. didnt the new 5.4 get better MPG with the 3rd valve? Just wondering
It is EPA rated for more, but those ratings are archaic. They're from the 70's and need to be updated. The EPA rating for Toyota's new wundercar the Prius is 60 city/55 hwy. But people are averaging 40. The EPA has a formula that it uses to rate mileage, and the 3 valve 5.4 IS more efficient, I wonder what really will come out for actual MPG. It may be better, it should be better, so should the new 3 valve V-10. But my 98 gets the same as the newer V-10's I believe. It has alot to do with the drivers right foot and where they drive.
