Dreaded BLACK, keeping it clean

While BLACK can be quite the sharpest color, we all know it's a pain to keep shining.

I was wondering what is recommended for black w/clearcoat, for a wax, and a polisher, and cleaner, and car wash.

I have been using Armorall Car Wash (the blue kind).

Merguiuars's Gold Wax (liquid), and also Mothers Cleaner Wax (the Carnuba type). I can't tell much different between the two, other than Mothers seems to clean a bit better, and it buffs out better (well with less elbow work).

I have the super cab, and still get water stains below the back passeneger windows (2 streaks on each side) after a rain sometimes, and even after a wash pending how the water dries.

How can one prevent that? and/or water SPOTS?

Seperate from that, is there like a POLISH that will make the black SUPER DOOPER Glossy? You know, like how you see the BLACK LIMO's in movies, etc.

After you get it "good and clean" try Mirror Glaze #7 show car glaze, then wax.

That's all fine and dandy, but where do I find this Mirror Glaze #7? All I have access to is Wal Mart, Autozone, Advanced, Napa, and Carquest. Unless I order online.

Never mind, I found it.

Thanks.

I just did my truck last weekend, its a black crew cab. I first used a clay bar to clean the paint real good, then Meguiar's Deep Crystal Polish, and I finished off with Meguiar's Gold Class Wax. I think the truck came out awesome. I also noticed that there was a stain under the fuel cap and that went away.

This takes half of forever, but this is what I do.
First wash of the year only:
Dawn Dish soap (strips all crud off the paint)
Clay Bar (whatever is cheap this week (Mother's or Mequiar's))
Mequiar's#9 Swirl Mark remover
Meguiars #7 Show Car glaze
Meguiar's #26 Carnuba wax (Now I use Mequiar's NXT wax and top with #26)

for in between washes-quick detailer or show time spray (whatever is on sale)

for all other washings:
Mr. Clean autowash
#9 (if required)
NXT wax (if very dull or not "deep" looking)
#26 wax (usually one coat, sometimes 2 if I have time)

Glass cleaner: Stoner's Invisible Glass
Rims/Chrome/Nerf Bars: Mother's Mag wheel cleaner
Drying towels: Waffle weave or microfibre towels
Polisher: Porter Cable 2124 random orbit polisher (speed level 4)
Wheel cleaner: jury is still out on this subject

tsc,

You are a candidate for autopia.org!!!!!!
A forum for fanatics about detailing cars.

Follow the sage advise of tsc but remember that black scratches if you look at it wrong. Getting all the swirl marks etc may be a journey with no end........

I use the meguires body/clear coat scrub. That took care of the streaks under the windows you talk about. The streaks come from the crud build up on the seals around that back window. Before you clean the clear coat use some windex or glass cleaner, I use eagle one auto glass cleaner and spray in onto the seal. I also clean my wiper blades with it. Use the cleaner and then I use the meguires gold class was. this stuff is great. I use the quick detailer between washes to keep the shine up. You do not have to go to great lengths for a good shine. This is clear coat paint. You want to get all the junk off the paint and then get a good polish on it show car glaze #7 is the best. period. And then the gold class wax should last you about a year if you go between washes with the quick detailer.

Believe it or not I have a Black 150, Z28 convertable, and Harley Deuce! Not sure why, but they do look good clean! About once a year I use 3M machine glaze! It can be put on by hand, but a professinal polisher with a foam pad works great if you know what you are doing! It romoves all the fine scratches (usually from washing and drying with a towel)! I like Mothers Carnuba (pure) wax-easy on and off! I also use a California Car duster in between washings, and a detailer Showroom Shine - I buy direct from the manufacturer by the gallon CHEAP!!!
