V6 Diesel Revived! - once again...

http://autoweek.com/cat_content.mv?p..._code=06944069
But not until 2008 and possibly as a Cummins!

(BTW mods, where did my original diesel returns post go? Could I be enlightened as to why? Did I break some rule?)

Diesel is a winner !

Hopefully ford will be able to make this happen. I bet dodge has the same coming for the Dodge 1/2 ton.

Especially if gasoline hits $3.00 a gallon ! Diesels are 30% more efficient than gas.

That is a perfect timeline for me since I like to trade every 4-5 years. A V6 Cummins with 250 hp and 450 ftlb torque getting 20 mpg would be perfect for me and my towing needs.

With it being a Cummins would be even better. I am very partial since I live 5 miles from the Cummins plant in Jamestown, NY.

I remember reading that Isuzu will be making the HD truck diesel for Toyta in a couple of years, give or take.

Yeah, I know, "Hah, Isuzu made the D-max, sucks to be Toyota!"....

Uh, no. Isuzu bolted from GM and let GM have the D-Max. Isuzu has some sweet 3.0 I4 and some monster I6 diesels that we miss out on. Things will be getting real nice in the diesel wars.

Oh, yeah, 450 ft/lbs in a 1/2-ton....whatever. I know the new f-150 is stronger, but it doesn't come with even the v10 and that rates at 425ish, okay???

butterflyer,

Those hp and torque numbers are just what would make me switch from a gasser. They don't have any factual basis.

Alfred,

As to the strength of the truck it would easily handle 425 to 450 ft lbs of torque. The weakest point of the truck is the driveline and with the diesel you would get a variation of the torqushift tranny found in the HD. One of the reasons that the V10 is not offered is that the EPA requirements for 1/2 tons are a lot different than that of the 3/4 and 1 tons.
