Horsepower gain by adding intake and exhaust?

My dad is gonna buy a supercab lariat 5.4l and he does want to put some mods on it. First thing is intake and exhaust upgrades. Who has the best air intake, and how much HP can be obtained by adding a Cold air intake, and a good exhaust system, like dual 2.5's or single 3 inch?

hmm, ive read some of u guys like volant intakes, but they cause a check engine light, but that can be corrected by reseting the ECM if im not mistaken. Air raid has a dyno of the 5.4 gaining 12 HP, and 18 ft/lbs of torque. What u guys think?

I am currently running Flowmaster 40 series, single in, dual out pipes with 3.5" tips..... also running volant intake. Very happy with both.

FYI - Volant fixed the problems they were having on the fitting issues. No more check engine lights either.

Just a reminder to all, being an engine is nothing more than an air pump:
Cold air intakes get their advantage by allowing COLD air intake, and
Dual exhausts allow better engine performance by reducing exit air back pressure; best performance happens at high rpm's.

magnaflow wide open/ Dynomax ultra flows outflow flowmaster by quite a margin. i think flowmaster 40 series only flows 350 cfm while a dynomax ultra flows 1000 cfm. it was like 250 or 350 for the flowmaster not 100% sure, but also the dynomax super turbos outflow flowmasters as well... i havent seen the flow rating on magnaflow wide open's prolly close to dynomax ultra flows.

I think that technically the 3in should flow better, but why wouldn't you get dual's? =P
