Thumbs down 4.2 Po156

I have a 99 E-150 w/4.2, has 65k, nothing but oil and coolant changes thus far.

Getting PO156 DTC, Engine light goes in and out, have erased code when out, but keeps coming back.

Any ideas on where to start troubleshooting????

No driveability problems lately, fuel economy seems less than usual.

Thanks,

Pete

Welcome E150FAN.

I recently had an experience with an error code. My advice...If you can not find more than one source on the internet stating which O2 Sensor it is, I would go to a shop and have them pin point which one it is by running a detailed scan on your computer. It cost about $70, but at least you will know for sure.

PO156 Solved, archive on which of four was right on

Thanks Indo bonda!

That's exactly what I needed, the archived instructions describing the location of bank2 sensor 2 was right on, replaced the sensor, done.

For future reference:

Bank 2 - Left (driver's) side
Sensor 2 - Aft of Cat.

see www.motorcraftservice.com, do a search on PO156, page on "Rear HO2S" Signal" gives the specs only if interested.

Thanks again,

Pete

What am I, chopped liver!?!?!?

Just kidding. Inda, Busa, James, Horizon, and Strict 4.2, are great sources of information. I am continually learning from them. I just like to poke my nose in from time to time.

Thumbs down chopped liver for $70???

Thanks for the post Frankie, but Inda's info saved me the $70, spent $129.00 on an actron odb2 code reader to AVOID spending the $70!!!!

Appreciate the thought though!

Anytime. I haven't had to break down and buy one yet, but I probably will if I ever get another "Service Engine Soon" light. Eventually it will pay for itself. Glad you got it knocked out. See ya around.
