I have cruised through several pages of posts and have not been able to find similar conditions. My truck has been "stuttering" at an idle for the last couple of months but running ok. Last Friday it started running rough like it is missing on some cylinders. It has 130K and has run fine up to now but it needs something. Would this be a symptom of the dreaded CMP failure or what are the life expectancies of injectors. It has a fresh oil, fuel and air filter so thats not it. Anyone have any suggestions?

 

Yes, it is most likely the CMP Sensor. I'm sure you've seen these, but here they are anyway:

Ok Latest Info. Can not find a port to get the codes from. Does the 95 model have the interface and if so where is it? Would the Check Engine light have come on if the problem was with the injectors??? Would the '95 model have a computer that does diagnostics on the injectors???

 

Depending on the build date, the 95 can have a DLC(data link connector) under the dash below the left side of the glove box or under the hood if it is still EECIV style. If your PCM tag is F5TF-12A650-BTE or before (I think) the two piece connector should be under the hood, left side near the hinge.

 

OK Latest news. I changed the CMP and it has helped but the truck is still not running right. Has a "stutter" in its acceleration and vibration as it goes down the road. Almost like a tire out of balance but thats not it. Any other ideas and thanks again for the info on the CMP and where to purchase one. BTW You can get it from advance auto as well for $230. I prefered mine at $92.00

 

I've been having the same problem with my truck. I took it to Ford and there service tech told me that the problem was that the dual mass flywheel is wore out and that i need a new one. Of course u can't just replace the flywheel because usually when it goes it messes up your clutch. If it is your dmfw you have two choices 1. put a new dmfw in but they are really expensive or 2. install a afternmarket one with a single mass flywheel and a regular clutch. I'm going to install a single mass flywheel and clutch when i get the money and it seems that alot of people have went this route. LUK seems to be a favorite choice here on the form.

 

That's what I have and have been very happy with it. you can buy it from Carolina Clutch, one of our sponsors. A replacement Ford part in this case is simply a waste of money.

My '95 PSD was running rough and stuttering, got steadily worse until it wouldn't run at all. Turned out to be the wiring harness was shorting out going to the injectors. Fried the whole thing.

 

Where did the harness short out. Mine is rough under load and up to about 2000 RPM and it smooths out. It does seem to be variable about how much it "misses"

 

MY 95 PSD with the same milage is doing the same. After all the reading of posts I am betting it is the DMFW, I am having the LUK unit installed on monday. I will post and let you know if this fixed my problem.

Please do. I am beginning to have the same thoughts. Can anyone explain to me how the DMFW works and why it was one of Fords "Better" Ideas? Could it be causing a balance problem that smooths out at higher RPMs?
