What is the purpose of the black moulding above the doors?

Does anyone know what the purpose of the black strips that run from the windshield to the back of the cab by the back window? I was washing mine today and noticed that there was a gap on the passenger side right above the corner of the door. I don't think that it will cause any leaks or anything, but it might make noise going down the road. Do any of you tech people know what these things do?

It's your rain gutter trim. It is an extension of the windshield trim, which goes from the base of the windshield to the back of the cab. I assume by doing it this way it channels the water back away from the doors better.

Thanks kingfish51. Is it just glued in place or what? I would think that it would be more secure than it is. If it is glued, does anyone know what type and should I do it myself or take it to the dealer under warranty?

Automotive Weatherstrip adhesive. Be careful of what you buy. There is black, and there is yellow. Yellow shows mistakes.

Along the windshield there are clips to keep it in place. Along the roof it actually slides in from the front. Has tracks that it fits into. Unfortunately at 10 days old I had to have my windshield replaced from a stone. I watch them replace it, and they had to take the metal strip out.
The channel for the trim is completely sealed.
I do hope we are talking the same thing here. The part I am talking overlays the side of the windshield and goes all the way to the back of the cab.

Thanks kingfish51. We are talking about the same thing. So the strip on the roof should fit into the track. When they put it back on did they put an adhesive down or just snap it back in place? Mine looks like it has some kind of adhesive under it, but I might be wrong. Thanks again for the info. The more I learn the better.

Actually it slide back in. I think it has grooves inside the channel that the edge of the trim fits into. When they tried to snap it in it wouldn't go. BUt sliding it in from the fron worked. Then the clips were along the windshield. No adhesive at all.
