I forgot about construction through the canyon. Haven't been up that way for a while. But I guess you're right... there is that job in Columbia Heights going through badrock. Yeah--the north fork road to Camas would be a good plan and cheaper too if the gate isn't manned. Maybe by mid august the main highway wont be so bad as it was last summer. We'll cross that proverbial bridge when we get to it and make appropriate plans. Let me know if you hear anything good about the highway thru the canyon though. I may take a day off landscaping and drive up and check it out, too.

I'm still drooling over Matt's venison.

Even some freshly burned areas and hopefully they won't be in the midst of forest fires this year!!!

As an air traffic controller here in Billings I can tell you right now this will be a bad fire year. We have already had two fires within 40 miles of Billings in the last two weeks that the fire bombers have been working on. We had snow and rain yesterday but it didn't amount to much actual water on the ground. By mid August there will be a lot of Montana on fire, you just have to play it by ear as to where to go. Here's a cool website that will show you the current fires, it is updated every day. Click on Wildfire Mapping.

Well, I got my vacation approved. Woo Hoo! Anyone have an idea of when we'll meet up in Billings before heading up to Kalispell? I was thinking of running out to Billings and spending the night and running up to Kalispell the next day. Don't really feel like taking in about a 1,000 miles in one day.

Looking forward to it also. Let's all pray that we aren't deluged with smoky skies again and can see the mountains this year. So..I take it we are definitely looking at the week of the 15th - 21st? Well, alreety then!! I better put in for that week off and hope I can afford it.

And you didn't take time to say 'hey'?? Call next time 406 755 0568

Are you still looking for a tailgate? I just sorted thru the old posts - thot it was you that needed a gate for the '67-72 series. I found it when the snow melted - still your's if you want it, and it's in decent shape. Can you haul something like that with the semi - in the cab or otherwise?

yes sir i can, i have a flatbed i can haul anything as long as i got room, and if i dont have room on the tralier i can put it behind my chain rack. or if all else fails i got a xtra bunk that folds up i can put it on. now are you up in kalispell or somewhere close. i run thru there so much lately i should rent a house to stay in. i can meet you anywhere mostly as long as it isnt too far out of route. with fuel prices the way they are i try and save as much as possible. we have an account at columbia falls hauling loads of lumber out of there so getting there is a good chance. saves you from hauling it to chicago lol also why is the lake so low ? seemed the boatdocks were 300 feet from the water

The lake is always low this time of year and doesn't usually fill until early June. They draw it down in the winter for supposed "flood control" below us if we have a heavy spring runoff. But .... we are in our 6th year of drought. Our snow levels are nowhere near what they ought to be, so we are all hoping that the lake will fill and stay that way, but with all the environmental policies, mandatory river flows and releases for the downstream salmon, it may not stay full long even if it does fill. All the lakes in the area are looking mighty dry right now.
