Need to set timing, Spout Connector probs.

I need to set the timing on my 3.0 shorty but the indicator keeps jumping around. I think that it is due to the fact that the spout connector is still hooked up. It says in the book that it is directly above the harness connector for the ignition module but it is nowhere to be found on my van. The only single wire connector that I was able to find was near the ignition coil on the drivers side of the engine. It leads to a circular device that is mounted to the head. Is this it?

Nevermind, I found the answer in an old post. Seems that the connector is about ten feet away from where the manual says and it looks completely different. Set the timing to 10 deg btdc and now it thinks it is a V8. Thought it had power before, and the timing was set at 5 deg btdc. Man 5 degrees makes a difference. Now for the cone air filter and the exhaust. Later.
