Question Quick question...2004 F-150

I'm a new owner of a 2004 F-150 XLT, and up until this point I've never been too concerned about gas/mileage improvements.
Browsing through mamny web sites I've found a few products that help improve mileage and gas sonsumption on F-150 trucks.
Can you guys recommend any of these products or give me a few names of products you highly recommend?

Thanks

A lighter foot...most products are gimmicks that sound good but dont work. Maybe a high flow air filter??? Also, i always use mobil 1 synthetic. Using it makes my engine run alot smoother than using the cheap stuff. probably helps out a bit in mileage also.

Keeping your engine tuned up regularly helps. So does smooth driving. Also make sure your bearings are in good shape, and belts etc. Proper tire pressure is essential to better fuel ecomony too.

I've never seen a gimick product (unless it improved aerodynamics) actually just bolt on and help. (Although sometimes a less restrictive exhaust can help, but not always)

I was kind of hoping there was something I can do to improve my mileage too - I have a 97 & will need a 2nd job soon to be able to afford gas. I've cut way back on driving because it's over $60 to fill my tank now. I may try the K & N air filter - think that will do any good? Also, is 101,000+ miles too late to switch to synthetic oil?
I see you're from NY, Dalthen! We have a NY Chapter here that you'd probably be interested in. Look on the main forums page - scroll down & join - it's free! I think you'd be the 1st & only 2004 we have!
We're planning some shows & other events & would love to have you come too. Be sure to stop in & tell us about yourself & your new truck! See you in the forum!

I "heard" through the grape vine from a few people that switching from regular oil to synthetic after 75000 miles isnt healthy for your engine. It may cause gaskets to dry out or leak. This is prolly BS but, I have heard it from a couple of different people.

I put synthetic oil in at 2500 miles. But I doubt the cost of the oil will be made up in better fuel mileage.

The best suggestion for improving mileage would be to drive like you're trying to save fuel...slower speeds, coast more to stops, and accelerate more gradually. And remember...you've got the wrong vehicle if you're trying to conserve fuel.

drive with your tailgate down the only thing i can think of is an engine chip, but then you will probably have to start running premium which will defeat the whole purpose.
