rear axel question (urgent)
I have a 1949 f-3 with a bad spindle on the rear axle its a split housing rear end. i found another rear end on a 49 f-2 or f-3 but im not sure if the axle will work because the brake drums look different the brake drums on the axle im looking at have a step where as my original axle has a drum similar to the front axle only bigger diameter. does anyone know if the axles are interchangable or if i can interchange the brakes and there the same axle. the guy has a whole bunch of old 40's-60's he has to get rid of in the next week or two because the land has been sold. the f-2 or 3 has a flathead 6 and most of the body is rusted out. He has a couple of old fords i didnt look to see what year they were though. He is located in central minnesota. If any would let me know about the axle i would greatly appreciate it.
ps i could proably get the f3 for about 150 bucks
Thanks,

According to my Ford parts & accessories catalog, The axle housings are the same on the f-2 and F-3 from 48-51. In 51 they changed them. THe brake drums and shoes and backing plates are different from a F-2 to a F-3. Make sure of the year of the truck is not a late 51 or 52. I would grab the whole thing for parts and salvage what you can.
