I know that there were some "fleet" ordered trucks that were special. For Example the local power company ordered 50 trucks in 78 and they specified some odd combinations.
I worked for the Ford dealer back then and we could look at a print out of scheduled to build Fleet vehicles for the Louisville plant, We could add a truck to be produced for our dealership but could make absolutely no changes to the build. I remember seeing some odd combinations and some special equipment added plus special paint colors and schemes.
Some of these fleet trucks would have to be rare. Fleets in 79 had round headlights.
I have seen, and may have the pictures of a 1979 F350 crew cab I almost bought for $5K 4 years ago. A indian on the reservation just South of Bullhead city bought it. The owner had installed a 460 in place of the 400.
Was it a 2-tone brown and white truck, advertised on Craigslist? If so, I called that guy (he was along the Colorado river) and asked him to send me some pictures of it, including the VIN tag on the driver's door. He said it was an F350, but the VIN started with F26.
I was sent a picture of the truck, but I can't tell if it is a F-350 or not. I can e-mail the pic if you are interested. It was brown and white, and looked good in the pic- but I was about to be retired and a 460 in that truck would not be easy on gas.
No, I'm not interested. I think we're talking about different trucks. The one I'm thinking about was for sale in the spring of 2010. I guess it doesn't matter, anyway. Sorry to have dragged this thread off topic.
We bought this truck in March of 1980 from a friend who was outside sales for Ford industrial in Cerritos, CA, He traveled So. Cal selling Ford commercial heavy equipment, He ordered the truck from Ford. We bought it with a 11 foot self-contained camper. It had a 6 inch lift kit and 36 inch tires.. (mom had to crawl into the truck). The truck was one of 1500 built in Canada . It was one of the first 1-ton,crew-cab 4x4 Ford trucks built. It had a 7ft. bed-not a short bed (6ft) and not a long bed (8ft),, It came with a 400 engine and a c-6 trans.. I put the modified 460 in after we bought the first 5th wheel cause the 400 didn't like to work that hard!!!! Then we bought a new 5th wheel which was a lot heavier and the 460 didn't like that!!, so after 2 engines and two trans., we bought a Dodge turbo cummins and now evrybody gets along fine. The Dodge and the Trailer go where ever We want at what ever I set the speed control at!!
[I seem to be unable to post the picture, it is a white with brown side inserts, really nice looking. I could forward the pic to someone with more experience in posting a pic.
Forward them to me, ranger429@mchsi.com. Forward a pic of the VIN tag on the drivers side door to or post what the VIN # is or was. You might have one of the only F-350 4wd crewcabs ever built.
Ranger429, please post pictures and info if you get them. You're right, that may be the only one of its kind if its stock.
I'm also curious, someone had told me that Ford only made 900 F-350 Ranger Lariat 4X4's like mine. I find that kind of hard to believe but it would be nice if it was true.
i have a 1977 Ford F600 6 door.
I was told it was factory coach built for the New Mexican Rail Road. Prev owner drove it from NM, rumors are its 1/2 made, other is rotting on a ranch in Wyoming.
custom lifted, fuel tanks, bumper, and bed. the cab is scalloped cut and welded interwoven like. if im wrong and it is home built it was done EXTREMELY well.

I am pretty sure I still have the pic- I can send to your e-mail if I can find it. Send me your e-mail in a message. I re-read my post- I didn't buy the crewcab, I believe it resides on the reservation next to Bullhead city, with a 460 I couldn't afford to feed it.
