95stepside is gaining momentum as a positive member of FTE.
In my opinion, the rarest vehicle over 30 years old is one that nobody will call rare. You see it all day long on craigslist and ebay...

power windows

LMC has a kit to install power windows in older trucks. Never seen it though.

This site is pretty interesting

1973-1979 Ford F-series Production Numbers - FORDification.net - The '73-'79 Ford Pickup Resource

And according to it there were only 1,761 F350 4X4 Supercabs made in 1979

It doesn't list crew cabs though so that may be mixed in with the super cab numbers.

About a week ago I saw a 1979 F350 4x4 Camper Special on CL - can't find it now so it must have sold, but I never saw one of those 140" WB rigs in 4x4. I didn't know that was even offered.

Interesting; thanks for posting that. To the best of my knowledge, Ford never made an F350 crew cab in 4-wheel drive in '79.

4x4 crewcabs were only built on the F-250 wheelbase and only in a shortbed version.

It wasn't, a 140" WB was 2wd only.

Sorry for the confusion, I meant that the whole site doesn't list crew cabs, wasn't referencing the F350 part of the topic there.>>

Has anyone ever heard an answer (or even speculation) as to why no long bed 4x4 crew cab dent sides were made? Some day I'm gonna build me one of them

I have a F-350 Supercab 4x4 with a 400 engine. It has the 4sp truck box, can't remember the number, a 205 TC, and both axels are Dana 60ties, with posi in the rear. The posi is two clutch packs, one on either side of the carrier. I have seen, and may have the pictures of a 1979 F350 crew cab I almost bought for $5K 4 years ago. A indian on the reservation just South of Bullhead city bought it. The owner had installed a 460 in place of the 400.

And he most likely installed F-350 badges as well. Ford didn't build a 1 ton 4wd crewcab.

Well, you may be right about that. Would the F-250 have the Dana 60 axel in front? I suppose he or the prior owner could have put those in too. Just as glad now I didn't buy it, the body in crewcab wasn't a clean design. I will contact the son and see if he can have his dad resend the photos so maybew this can be figured out.

Sure it could of got a D60 from the factory, it was an option on the 250's. All 4wd crewcabs have a starting VIN of F26, same as a regular cab 4wd. The only difference on the VIN tag is the 150" wheelbase instead of 133".
