MY 96 BRONCO vs. 71 BLAZER
I have a buddy that thinks his 71 Cheby Blazer is the strongest and muddinest truck on the planet. He thinks he can out do my bronco. Both trucks are completely stock. He has a 350 and I have a 351 which is stronger I have been at him to get it out and prove it.

He does have a few advantages. The solid axle under the Blazer will definitely be stronger, and will be at least as good for off-roading as your TTB setup. I think that the pre-smog 350 motors had power ratings similar to the newer TBI 350. The sheetmetal and interior will also hold together much better in the older Blazer. If the t-case in the Blazer is a NP 205, he will also have a durability advantage there.
In defence of the Bronco, it has fuel injection, which will be more reliable, and more suitable to hill-climbing.
If you had a 78-79 fullsize Bronco, it would probably level the playing field a bit.

He thinks right, older Blazers were pretty nice solid trucks. He probably does have a better off road vehicle then you and could out do yours. Though we are talking about taking it to the extremes to find out, which is not likely in stock vehicles. With stock vehicles and tires, you are unlikely to push either vehicle into breaking something vital unless you do something stupid.
The 351w is a much better design then the SBC350, imo. Plus, with an EFI 351w, I think you would have an edge in hill climbs and such.

From my experience fords tend to have a bigger axle/stronger rearend
As for the TH400 they are good trannies... but Id put one up against a C6 anyday... they hold about the same horsepower I think

when i was young and stupid i had a 78 Ford Bronco with the 351M and i was racing a guy with a 78 Chevy Blazer bb350 and for some reason i snapped the front driveshaft and the place we was racing at was worse as heck, he to snapped hes lockout hubs and i snapped my right side but i still pulled strong with only two wheel drive even though my engine was in the red zone, but once your in that moment you gotta do what it takes to win..

Yea, forgot about that tranny
But I'd still put a C6 up against a 400

The 727.c6 and turbo 350,400 all use the simpson planetary gears set but this is wear the simalarity stops. This is not to say they they are not all tough units in their own right but saying they are the same couldn't be father from the truth
