Antenna Mounting Idea, feedback please...

I have no antenna at all, I have no holes drilled for any antenna, the stock reproduction is $60 that I do not have right now, I do happen to have a unit just like this, and thought this was an interesting place to mount it, assuming the link works, what do you all think? (sorry its on a Chvy)

I like it!!! However, if your truck is mostly stock, go with the original and in the stock location as well. But that's just what I'd do........

What is that on the bottom of your left fender? Is that some kind of fender protector? Ed

That Chvy Aint mine, just saw the thing on the internet! uk1050, if I mount a hidden antenna under the dash, will that only bring in the strongest stations due to all the steel around it? Right now I have an antenna, just like that one in the photo, stuck under the dash, strong FM is good, AM for some reason is very bad, distant FM is pretty bad as well.

Packrat, I mounted an Auto Zone cheapie under my running board, isolating it in rubber. I had a friend do this under a street rod and knew his worked well. So far mine works well with limited driving on it. It is an aesy solution, and if it doesn't work you can return to stock mount later. Joe

That Autozone cheapie, is that the hidden type, or a std antenna, under the running board?

I have seen this mounting position on several f trucks. It works, but I would stick to the shorter unit instead of that model in the pic. Good luck, John

I have not heard a modern dash unit in 20 years that does a decent job picking up and holding AM the way they did 'in the ol days', so I would not necessarily blame an antenna exclusively for poor reception.

Guys we are showing our age. I wonder how many of us enjoy AM radio over FM. I know I do and I listen to it 4 times more then FM. Ed

I admit, I listen to AM much more, like 80% of the time, but I guess I am getting to be a bit of an ond fart... Thats what concerns me about the whole hidden antenna thing, will a hidden antenna pick up AM?

That was my concern also. The guys I know that have hidden antennas all say the reception is great on fm, poor[if any] on am. Except those with glass cars. My antenna works great on am. It is under a glass runningboard, but it is also next to/ under a large metal body. IMO it is a good solution to not wanting a hole in the body and works fine. Joe

Isn't AM the First 12 hours of the day? AM radio? Are you talking about the morning shows?

I think that looks pretty nice like that. Looks more classey than the ones bolted next to the side windows.
