John Deere Truck??

Since Ford teamed up w/ Harley Davidson, do you think they'll ever do a John Deere Truck??

John Deere Green, even yellow wheels & a Deere Diesel..

Think that would sell??

Just wondering & didn't see where else to ask..

Hhhmmm, being an old farm boy, I recall that question when a John Deere went by on the back of a C series Ford.

Seein's how the farm market has shrunk down some, and Deere brings a lot of their stuff in from Germany, I thinks, and further seein's how they mostly make their money off lawn and golf course equipment, I think it is unlikely they will head into a very expensive to start up market against manufacturers that are already having tough times.

What would they have new to offer?

The modern way to do this is to merge with a truck manufacturer.

I would gladly consult with anyone at John Deere for a modest fee to provide them with guidance.

It'd be sweet. A 6068 6.8L powertech inline 6, turbocharged with 4-valve heads, 775 ft-lbs @ 1400rpm. -drool-

They could own the heavy duty pickup market tomorrow if they wanted to. Problem is, there is an agreement made long ago between GM and John Deere. GM doesn't make tractors, and John Deere doesn't make trucks.

I would like to put one of those JD powertech engines in a ranger or something. Not the 6.8L, that'd break it. Probably the 4045.

I thought ford and New Holland had some kind of relationship. I don't think New Holland would like a ford/John Deere truck very much.

Just wonderin here, but I where I come from we actually have Ford tractors around. I can't imagine it not being the same Ford but hey I'm not that into tractors. Hey 85e150six4mtod, your forgetting a pretty large chunck of John Deere's industry when you say that they make most of their money off of lawn equipment and golf course stuff, they have a pretty big road construction outfit too.

Back in the day ford made tractors and airplanes along with there automobiles. My uncle has an old ford red-belly, neat little tractor. I think New Holland merged with ford in 1986, so they may still make tractors.

If it was ever built, I'd buy one!
We use to have an old Ford tractor and a JD. As a kid I never knew much about tractors other than how to operate them. I never liked the Ford one too much cuz it was blue and boring. The JD however was a cool color green and yellow. In all honesty, I thought that's how my grandpa painted them hahaha so I just liked that one better. Then as I grew up a little and learned more about mechanics and all I grew to love the ol JD even more.

They're both still on the farm. The Ford is in need of a restoration, it hasnt been used in atleast 10 years. The JD however is still chuggin a long in the fields. Dont get me wrong, it's had a LOT of work to keep her goin, but it still impresses me.

At one time I thought I saw where JD did make a HD truck. I''ll dig around to see if I can find it. I do know that JD WAS working on a HD engine for OTR trucks, but the project was killed. A friend of mine was on that project.

One thing to remember - 99% of people associate John Deere with LAWN MOWERS - any one want a Ford MTD truck?

I'd think that 99% of them would associate it with Tractors.
But either way, anyone that knows anything about lawn mowers knows that JD is superior over most/all brandas

Anybody that knows anything about lawnmowers also knows that the lower end JD's (the kind sold at HD) are junk. JD mower techs will tell you that.

That agree'd but there's the point again... if you know, you won't buy it
It's a back and forth opinion, and this thread is about the JD truck, not quality of the mowers... so lets drop it
