The warning says "fifty miles until empty". When I hit the warning I fill it up, and usually put in 23 gallons. Which means I had 7 gallons left in my thirty gallon tank. Fifty miles is pretty conservative in my opinion. At 14 mpg you should have 98 miles. Even at 10mpg that's 70 miles.

My Lariat doesn't say that. It says "Low Fuel Level"

FYI. I drove my 04 screw well past the "0" mark the other day. I put at least an extra ten miles on it before I filled up and it didn't hesitate a bit.

My 90 mercury Cougar was the same. When comp said 0 miles to empty if I stopped at nearest station to fill it would always take 17 gal. Tank held 19.1 My 99 F150 has a 25 gal. tank and if I stop and fill when light comes on it takes 21 gal.
