MPG improved...could it have been Sea Foam?

I recently had to have my radiator cleaned out. After I got that cleared up, I did the Sea Foam thing, letting the engine Vacuum pull the liquid in while the engine was running, then shutting it off for about 10 mins. I did this twice.
Since then I have bought gas 3 times.
Each time my mpg has been between 18.5 and 19.
Previously it was about 17.5.
These numbers are for combined city - hiway - interstate.

As I mentioned in my thread on Sea Foam, I am generally skeptical about miracles in a bottle, but something has caused my mpg to increase.

I can only guess it was the Sea Foam.

Here is my theory:
Carbon had built up, effectively raising the compression ratio.
This lead to preignition/detonation w/ 87 octane.
The ECU retarded timing, therefore power dropped.
Less power meant more fuel was needed.

Elimination of the carbon has returned the engine to near-new (or nearer-new) conditions so power and mpg have improved.

After driving about 700 miles after the Sea Foam treatment I can say that the engine DOES feel like it runs better..
Any comments or thoughts?

I do have a question Brian. How often should you put sea foam in your engine? Every 25k miles or less? Brian, can you give me step by step instructions on how to put the sea foam in the engine? Appreciate it.

I'm so confused on the step by step info on the SeaFoam it's crazy. I don't even know what a vaccuum line is, or where it is. Anyone got pics of this?

Above your battery, theres a black shield. there is a small line, same size as your wioer fluid line. It has a small T fitting in it with a black cap. Thats vaccuumm. Tap into it for all your FMU and boost gauge needs!

Joseph,
See info at the end of this thread;
https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/s...86#post1573786

The vacuum line is a black rubber "hose" about 1/2 to 5/8 inch diameter.
The one I used comes off a metal fitting located on the bottom of the intake, leaving the intake just behind the throttle body.

If you have additional questions, post them in the thread linked to above.

Thanks!

Inda,

Not sure how often you should use Sea Foam, but I use it in my truck every other oil change. Like Brian, I’m usually pretty skeptical about miracle fixes, but this product seems to be one of the few exceptions that really works as advertised.
