Question What Is the best brake dust remover

Who knows what the best brake dust remover for your wheels is? I've used armoral wheel cleaner it does alright but not the best job. In addition to the best brake dust remover what can I put on my wheels to keep the brake dust OFF? I have the stock wheels on my Larry. Any input is very welcomed...

For cleaning, there are many good commercal grade products especially from the UK, but....this is what I use.....

1 spray bottle
50/50 mix of simple green (commercial or automotive grade) and water or regular simple green at a 75/25 mix- add 1 teaspoon of joy (or similiar) soap.

When drying the wheels, if chrome, have a second bottle with a 50/40 mix of denatured alcohol/water and add 10% of white vinegar. Lightly spray your rag and wipe- it will shine like it was new.

To repel the dust, there is really no way to keep it off your rims without eating your pads up. There are dust shields that install inbetween the rim & hub but this causing the brake not to cool, inducing rotor warp and reduces your pad life considerable.

When time to replace, I use pads & shoes from Carbotech Engineering (for 20 years), they produce about 20% more friction, dissipate heat faster than oem units, produce about 50% less dust (street & street/strip applications) and on all my vehicles I typically get 80k-100k miles out of a set. cost is about $120 a set.

Use Simple Green. You don't have to mix it with any thing. Use it full strength.

Spray it on, wash the rim, rinse it off.

It works great.

I haven't tried Simple Green on my wheels yet, but Eagle One always gets everything off (with a few swipes) for me

For the removal of brake dust from wheels I used the automotive version of the Mr. Clean magic eraser and it worked very well.

If you keep your wheels waxed you can wipe brake dust off with a rag or at most rinse
with water. The brake dust doesn't stick to a waxed wheel, plus they look better!

I put ceramic pads on the front, that was the end of cleaning off brake dust.. This also ended the replacing rotors every 4-6000 miles..

What I use on my wheels is Bon Ami on a soft brush. Takes the brake dust right off. And Bon Ami, like it says on the can, "Hasn't Scratched Yet."

Bon Ami - you will remove the clearcoat! It has a mild abrasive in it!

I have found simple green to work pretty good, but I haven't found anything quite like armoral's wheel cleaner. It comes in a grey bottle you spray it on let it soak spray it off. Its like the brake dust just washes away. It will also restore your raised white letter back to white.

??? in your first post, you say the armorall does alright, but not the best job. Now you are praising it?

In any case, do yourself a favor and ditch the crappy stock brake pads and get some better pads that don't produce dust. Myself and many others have had good results with Porterfield carbon kevlar pads.

If you wipe them with a spray-wax when clean, they will come clean much easier next time if they are clear-coat wheels. If you've done that any mild car wash soap and a rag should be more than enough to wipe them clean.
