Where can I get a 160 degree thermostat for a 2000 F250 6.8L V10?

Why would you want to do that? Your engine is designed to get best economy and performance at a certain temperature. If your Tstat is way off the computer will think you have a cold start and run too rich.

If you run rich all the time your mileage will suffer but that is the least of your problems. The excess gas may make it's way past your rings to dilute and pollute your engine oil. Even if you oil isn't diluted by gas, you will not get enough heat to vaporize any water in the oil, thus leading to corrosion and sludge build up. Your catalytic converters may over heat, those babies are expensive. Your might not have sufficient power to out run a Geo metro if that is what you are looking to do.

Unless you are doing other things to your truck that work hand in hand with a low coolant temperature and unless you are not planning to do normal driving, running a cold Tstat is not the best idea in the world. Modern engines are designed to run best at higher temps than the older designs. The metals and machine work are also designed for this.

I am in a club that runs Impala SS cars which are designed to run at 180. Many members run with a 160 Tstat BUT, they must reprogram the computer, they have other mods and they do it for performance reasons. Some have had problems with engine sludging. There is another club where I used to read digests on engine tweaks. On that particular model car, running too cold and too rich caused the catalytic converters to "coke up" and then die, expensive.

Not a good idea in my opinion, but I am sure there are others with opposites opinions. Just be sure of what you are really trying to do before you do it.

The stock temp on the '99 V10 is 192/195. I'm am going to the 180° thermo when I get to the dealer on Monday. The Hypertech manual says to go to a 160° or 180° but I'll be conservative. I haven't been able to find them at an auto parts store yet.

That is Hypertech's way of fooling the computer into adding more fuel so it wont ping. Superchips or Diablo are way better chips.

V10man... You hit the nail right on the head, buddy! Hypertech gets all the HYPE while the Diablo Sport chip does it the real way. Thanks for pointing that out! That's why I went Diablo Delta!!!!

I don't have a v-10 but thought I'd chime in. My Ranger has a factory T-stat of 198. I put in a 180 and did notice a bit better performance due to it running a bit richer, however my mileage suffered, I can't imagine what a 160 would have been like, also engine longevety is an issue with low temp stats. I think the reason Hypertech and Jet reccomend them is because their programmers only tune at WOT so they have you put in the lower stat so you think it is actually the chip giving you the performance gains. Check this link for engine longevity:

I have gone back to the factory 198 from the 180 I put in. I do notice slightly less power when warm, but my mileage is much better now. I'm getting 19-20 interstate compared to the 16-17 I was getting with the 180. I realize posting this kinda mileage from my Ranger on a V-10 forum may get me some negative comments, I just offer this as a personal experience with a lower stat. Maybe if gas prices ever go back down to a reasonable level I will put the 180 back in, but right now it's not worth it for a daily driver. I also have a Diablo chip I ordered off of motorhaven, Ken has made it pretty clear that he does not reccomend a t-stat other than stock.

Not at all! I enjoyed hearing a real life experience. Now I know why someone says Hypertech cheats on the way they program.
