Not a lot I don't think. From what I've read on searches here, the 18 in syncronized in 2-4 and the 19 is in 1-4.

yes its a better transmission then a t19 or 18 in my opion there built pretty tought from what ive here and read about them and mine works great so far they shift smooth as well have a good first gear from crawling the rest are good ratios my 460 handles them all well and the OD you cant beat 2000 rpms at 65 compared to 2800 at 65 with a t19 and 4.10 rear gears look at the T19 to ZF5 speed post on the 2nd or 3rd page on this forum it will say what i had to do to put it in my truck

F2 fifter
I have an 86 half ton that I want to put a ZF in and was wondering where you got yours and how much it cost you. I would really like to slow my engine down at highway speeds, but still have a double low. Did the crossmember and driveshaft work, or did you need to replace them? Thanks in advance.

I got mine from a guy off here actully off FTE i got a good deal on it you can look on ebay from time to time someone will be selling a good used one or you can get a brand new rebuildt one or call around some junk yards or go and look in a few i had found them in junk yards myself but nothing that would work with my application being mine is a 2wd and has a 460 all i eevr found was ons for 351w and 4x4 in junk yards i have a long bed regular cab my drive barley fit without me ahving to cut it down in length being the ZF was about an inch longer i was able to slide my drive shaft carrier bearing back int he slots and it worked also i had to drill ne holes an inch back from there stock postion and grind about 1/4 of an inch maybe a bit less for the transmission case housing to clear that was it was pretty easy everyhting else just went into place i akso had to change the floor pan being the old t19 floor pan wasnt tall enough but the guy i got the ZF rom sent me his floor pan so i just unbolted mine and bolted that one back in

I have a few notes on the T-18 and 19 gathered over the years. There seems to be a basic difference in the gear ratios as listed below but there are variants of the two transmissions available. These transmissions were used in many applications. The T-19 was used in HD applications that required 4 gears in normal use. The synchro low was used to get the heavy vehicles moving. Lighter trucks used the three gears available in the T-18. With big tires and lower numeric ratio rear diffs the T-19 would be useful.

T18=6.32/3.09/1.69/1.00
T19=5.11/3.03/1.79/1.00
