Ford Cat inline 6 vs the Cummins
#4
Personally thats my opinion too, but I haven't had the chance to experience the Cat myself. My dream truck is a F-350 or F-450 whichever you can get the Cat in 4x4 CrewCab Longbed Superduty

inline-6. Both other engines used in the 650's and 750's (ISB 5.9L cummins and 6.0L PowerStroke) are also used in light duty trucks(pickups).
If you can fit a 7.3L V8 diesel in a truck, why not a 7.2L I-6?
By the way, I like the Cat. I would like to have the Eaton 10 speed Road Ranger manual or the 6 speed Aliison auto. But maybe that is the problem, there is not a transmission light and small enough that will fit the Cat. Or if there is, it can't handle the power.
I like your avatar. Did you make it yourself, or did you find it?

An inline 6 is longer than a similar displacement V8, so that may cause trouble when trying to fit the motor into the engine compartment. The biggest problem with Cummins conversions in Ford and GM pickups is the length of the motor, and the 5.9 is considerably smaller than the Cat C7.
GM was thinking about a Cat (probably the 3126) to put into their pickup 6-7 years ago, but scrapped the idea because the dash board would need to be heavily modified. Also, they probably decided to wait for the design change a few years later to get a different diesel. Also, Dodge had a 7.2 L I6 diesel that was rumored to be a Caterpiller in their Power Wagon concept about 5 years ago. It had a monstrous torque rating (around 700 ft/lbs), but Dodge decided that it was too expensive and "overkill" at the time.

Sorry for the confusion, but I reffering to johnsdiesel's avatar. Yours is nice though.

I don't know, I may be wrong. I think it is the same size though. I have looked at several and the only differences I can see is the bigger wheels and a badge that says F-450 or F-550.
