2.3 Noise

Hi, my son has a 89 Mustang with a 2.3 ,when you give it a quick shot of throttle it makes a clack noise in the front part of the engine area.It only does it from idle and just for a split second,it doesn't do it if you rev the engine a few times or if your giving it some throttle and rev it,only from idle to a quick rev.I read some threads on this engine here I really didn't see any question similar to mine. The engine runs great it only has 45,000 mile on it and it doesn't knock or ping just the noise I mentioned.Does anybody know if this is a problem or a noise common to this engine,I had a 84 Bronco II with a 2.8,that was a noisy engine but a good one for me,didn't have a lick of engine trouble.
