turbo whistle

New to PSD's.I hear some of the PSD's that have alot of turbo whine.Do they get this with the a
chip and exhaust mod with no muffler or what? Sounds like a Peterbuilt or KW!
Also, should I put a few miles (3000) and oil change before doing the pipe and chip and air filter mods mods?
Thanks gearloose

Can someone describe "turbor whine" for me? I have a whistling noise at the top of the rpm range, ie just before the shift? It sounds like an air leak and I have been tightening the clamps everywhere in an attempt to eliminate it. My truck is chipped (80 hp) and has the large exhaust and K&N filter.

That "wine" or "air leak" is your turbo. Listen to a big rig - makes the same type of noise right before they shift - just much louder. I noticed my 2002 Excursion PSD making more of this whistle after i put a different exhaust system on , as well as a new airintake. I have been playing aound with a metal pipe from the turbo to the air box - and now the turbo's whistle can be heard almost a block away !!
Also , you will notice this whistle is more noticable when the truck is under a load , like going up a hill or pulling a trailer...

Turbo whine is a cool thing. I am working on getting some sound clips
of my truck pulling my racecar with the new metal inlet pipe on ...Sound is right up their with the big 18 wheelers. Caused becasue the whine echos in the mental - instead of being canceled out by the stock rubber piece.....

Wasn't really that hard to make a metal pipe to repalce the factory
rubber piece. I took the truck to the chassis guy who built my racecar - and we basically took a 5'' pipe and started cutting & welding to make it fit under the stock hood - took awhile - but came out nice. The metal pipe is actually at the local powdercoater getting ceramic coated so it looks all nice and pretty - plus ceramic coating deflects heat better. Cooler air , more boost !!!

DAVE - I would like to get togther with you sometime this weekend , and hear the hypermax exhausts, boith with and without the muffler.
Email me at work , JOE_CACCAVELLA@DSTOUTPUT.COM . i will be here till 4pm today , and we can figure out someplace that we can meetup...
