anyone know what rear end i've got in a 300 i6 auto c6sb? it's an 84 long bed, single cab

 

I'd guess a 9" offhand. Does it have a removable carrier - bolted on from the front of the axle housing?(9") Or, does it have an access panel that bolts on the rear of the housing? (8.8)

If you're wondering about gear ratio you have, there should be a metal tag under one of the mounting nuts - usually first three numbers on the bottom line of the tag.

 

It should have a Ford 8.8 with 3.55 gearing.

 

I have the exact same truck with the 8.8 rear with 3.08 gears.

sorry this may sound dumb, but im considering a rear end change, (my first one, im 16) whats better for all around use the 9" or the 8.8, i've heard alot about the 9

 

it may cost more, but go 9. even chevy guys rave bout the Ford 9 inch. it takes a major lickin and just keeps on tickin.
