Replace Fuel filter 97 Explorer V8 5.0

You can take the gas cap off to relieve pressure. You also have to have the right tools to get the filter unhooked from the lines. You have to have a set of Spring Lock coupling Tools to remove the line from the filter. They are a round tool with a slit through one side. It slides around the line and into the coupling on the filter and fuel line. You have to push the line towards the filter while pushing the tool in at the same time. Then the line will release. Most think it is a little touch to do the first time, but after you get the hang of it, they are easy.
The fuel filter is mounted on the frame just under the drivers door (or right in that area)....

Depressurize?
Don't you have to deactivate the fuel pump or manually depressurize the fuel lines before removing the filter? Removing the fuel tank cap by itself won't depressurize the fuel lines. Am I right? Marth needs to disable the fuel pump and crank the engine, or bleed the pressure off with a pressure guage before the filter comes off.

Definitely goggles! I never depressurize the line. Engine is going to stop at about 15#. Liquids don't compress. Just have a rag around it. Don't do it with a full tank and do release the gas cap (if it hasn't been sitting for a while). Remember gravity never sleeps. You are likely to get a decent abount of gas just from the lines draining. I like to quickly cap off the filter with my fingers, give it a good shake, and then reverse blow out the contents into a glass to see what I've picked up in my travels.
