86 f150 300 to 429 swap

I have an 86 ford f150 2wd that has a 300 with 297000 miles. I am thinking about rebuilding a 429, that was in my 71 galaxy 500, and installing it into my 86. What kind of problems am I looking at? Will the motor mounts for a 460 in the same year work? What ignition system should I use?

Yes the frame mounts and the engine mounts will work from an 83 up F -series truck.

That's a really good choice of engine swap, and the 429/460 mounts will work. Look at the MSD 6A ignition system for an upgrade. Just remember to try to find a tranny that will bolt up to the big block motor.

Will he not have issues with suspension components on a truck that was designed for the weight of a 300-six going to a 429?

I would get a set of new front coils that came on a 2wd 460 f250... that will take away any sag..

A 429/460 only really weighs about 50lbs more then a 300. fully dressed 300's are close (really close) to 600 lbs.

halftons- you probably right, but if his front is sagged, an extra 50lbs won't help..

other than the ride height, there really isn't anything else you'd have to worry about..

A 460 weights more than 50 lbs more than a 300, Ford Power Products(industrial engine devision) specs a 460 out at 715 lbs, and, a 300 out at 495

i know a FE is close to 700lbs fully dressed and thats about 40lbs MORE than a dressed 460.

I wonder what they bolt on to them to get the 715. 495lbs for a 300 must be a longblock shipping weight.

a 300, complete fan to flywheel, aircleaner box, manifolds, everything, weighs 597lbs before you bolt it to a pallet.
