The latest on my vibration issue

I have posted before about my vibe between 58-62mph, and a steering wheel shimmy. The steering wheel shimmy is gone now, they moved a tire to the back, smooth as silk. They suspect I have a tire that is defective or out of round. They are going to give me two new tires because when it is time to rotate tires the shimmy will likely return. Now, I still have the 58-62 mph vibration. A service manager rode with me yesterday, and we determined the vibe only exist under light to moderate throttle. If I coast down from 65 to 58mph no vibe, get back on the throttle and there the vibe is. They are checking the pinion angle and torque converter today. Here is my question, would my pinion angle get thrown off from my 2" lift in the front? Thanks.

I would not be surprised to see a recall in the future for the 18" B F Goodrich tires, I see them as the problem!

I would think it would change the pinion angle, both front and rear. You did not change the position of the diffs, but changed the height of the transfer case. May not have changed much, but you don't always need much of a change to cause problems.

I have Frenchy Michelin tires and the vibration between 46 & 65 mph is in the Drivetrain.

Mine came with Goodyear and the dealer recently switched them to Goodrich. No difference. I believe it's drivetrain-related also.

My dealer is sending me down the switching to BFG road. I don't think it will help. The dealer says everybody who is having problems like me, who has came back to him has goodyears. He said they suck and he would not put them on his lawn mower.

Can anything be done to correct the pinion angle? The dealer said mine is definetly off, and could be contributing to my vibe.

I hope that you are NOT saying that you are going to pay for the BFG’s out of your own pocket. I think that is B.S. Unless you wanted bigger tires anyways. I don’t want bigger tires and I will not replace them at my own expense to fix a factory problem. <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comfficeffice" /><o></o>

I will not pay for them, hell no. I am just letting the dealer talk his ****, and when and if he says Ford will not put BFG's on the truck, I will most likely go ape ****.

My dealer is sending me down the switching to BFG road. I don't think it will help.
I don't either. In fact, I helped my nibble switching from BFGs to Kumhos.

In either case, make sure the tires/rims are road force balanced. If possible, stand at the machine and watch to make sure the tire dealer knows what he/she is doing.

I use the same tire dealer that puts tires on my race car. He is very experienced and keeps his Hunter 9700 serviced and within specs.

BTW, my mounted Kumhos road force balanced at 11,11,11,7.

I have the 18 w/Goodyear AT/S's and I have NO vibration at any speed. Truck drives perfect anywhere from 0-80mph. Built 11/03 and purchased 3/25/04. 1100miles to date. Are they giving you problems about the lift and whether they'll consider it warranty work if it in fact is due to the lift? I assume you have the spacer. If it is an issue, was your spacer installed by a Ford dealer?

Your pinion angle did NOT change at all with raising the front of a vehicle with independent suspension. You did not even change your front driveshaft angle. The only angle change was your CV joint angles. Go out and jack up the front bumper of your truck and you will see how the transfer case, transmission and drive shaft will all move the same amount, your rear tires are the pivot point. If you had a solid axle front end then your front short shaft would change angles when you lifted the front and the rear would change only if you raised the rear.

Guy's,I have the BFG's and I to have the vib. in the floorboard, and I don't think it's in the tire's,it's in the drive train or something else. I got under my FX4 Scab and was looking for something that could vib. under the truck and I found that there is a rubber like flap that is under the radiator that is very thin and could be a vib. problem. I don't know,it just about make's me sick to talk about it anymore,to think we payed this much for a vechicle that is a vibrating SOB.

IMO, not enough mass oscillating to induce the harmonic vibration.

It's time for a warranty repair.
