140 in my built 5.0 mustang. in my 76 ford ranger f-100, i got it up to about 105. it felt like i was trying to break the sound barier or someting cause the truck was rattling like i was about to go into outer space. i have a built 390 with 4:10's i would never recomend it. its not a great plan.

what good is life if you're not going to take a chance once and a while. Taking these bread boxes we drive past the 100 mph mark is dangerous but man what a rush, it's like cliff diving, you know if you screw up just a little you're dead, but you do it anyway just to get the rush. So drive fast take chances, that's the only way to live

I can't imagine what it's like for the guys that have gone 120-140 in a 73-79.

At 100 the hood looks like it is about to rip the center latch out of the core support. It just rocks side to side on the latch. those big hoods catch alot of air under them.

Bwahh hah hah!!!

You're right, my hood looked like it was ready to leave the state Later, I put on a new one and adjusted it, so it was solid, but the first time ... well, it was ready to "fly, be free"...

I will again second everyone's comments about vibration, noise, etc.

Never do this while on the road with ANYONE else... either on your side or the opposite side.

Flying bricks ...

But interesting none-the-less.

Had my 79 F150 351M/C6/9" up to around 90 once. It would have done better except it sat for a long time and i was afraid to realy open it up. All stock except headers and duals. 77,000 original miles on the motor.
Does anybody know what my gear ratio might be?

there should be a tag on the rearend that tells you, but you're probably running 3.25's or 3.50's with an aoutomatic

When i brought my 76 F100 it would do 110 mph with a 302clevo and four speed manual,
now i've put a 351clevo in it with a c6 auto and can only get about 90mph out of it (Not happy) so now i'm going to change the diff ratio. you may think i'm mad but in Austraila you need to be able to sit on about 80 mph comfortably on some of these long boring roads.

that was pretty much my experience with my 1976 F-350 with a utility bed. 450 hp 460, C-6 3.55, 235/85LT16s...

bonneville SSEs shut down at that speed... not that I'd know, but I beat him anyway.

yes not smart, but the truck was suprisingly stable at speed

had my crewcab powestroke to approx 115, once, it was almost as stable

I think its so stable, because everything is shaking so hard, that it mystically cancels everything else out...

I've had a 77, 78 and 79 with two 302s and 1 351w. I could get all of them easily over 100 and all had c6 transmissions. I thought they would handle fine. I have held them at at least 80 through many curvy roads and they have held well.

I have found that adjusting the hood down tight, and adding a second set of rubber stops at the rear of the hood (the holes are pre-drilled) greatly reduces the shake. ditching the stock 16.5s for newer 16s did the most to smooth it out though.

going to 16's also makes it easier to get tires, unless you are going 100% restored

Mine has a 390 c6 don't know the gear ratio but and when my little bro was being born at home my dad and i were clocked on the highway by gsp at 125mph but she was flat screamin' my dad never stopped, gsp followed us all the way home, and in the driveway the trooper said he needed to talk to dad. Dad told him to f**k off.
