Heater Water Outlet Pipe Source for 400?
Hello everyone,
I cannot find a source for the heater water outlet pipe on my 400 (The non threaded hole right next to the thermostat housing). Old one was corroded so bad it was destroyed when engine was pulled / rebuilt. The pipe is 3/4" diameter where it pushes into the block, about 3" long, and it has a little rim in the middle to keep it from being pushed into the block too far. I called the Ford dealer and they said it is obsolete. Parts man was unsure, but he said he *thought* it was part number D7AZ18B402B.
Anyone know of a source for this piece, or an alternate idea? (Tap the hole and install a different fitting?) Advanced Auto, Napa, and Autozone don't have it either.
Thanks,
DiMora

I have tapped the hole in other engines to fix that problem. You can get thin steel tube type threaded fittings in the radiator HELP section of auto parts stores. You can also use brass fittings. Get the largest opening you can find that fits the hose. Use teflon tape, or teflon pipe dope on the threads.

Alright...found it!!!! Whoo Hoo!
It can be purchased at Carquest:
Part Number CTC 278962 They call it a "fitting" on the receipt. It is 3/4" in diameter, and has a flared end on the hose end. $6.00 It obviously has to interface with a 5/8" heater hose, so I bought about 8" of 3/4" heater hose to attach to the fitting (along with a clamp) and a 3/4" to 5/8" adapter. I hope this helps the next guy avoid having to tap...although in the long run tapping is the superior technique. It was too late for me, however, as I am fully built, and I didn't want to get metal shavings in my cooling system.
