switch for glo plugs

helo there

Iread in a post that some people have a switch to turn on there glo plugs.I was wondering what the reason for this is,and also I have a 94.5 psd and I'am
getting the glo plugs and relay switch replaced on it the mechanic said the relay seems to be sticking on and does not want to take a chance on just replacing the glo plugs in case it sticks on and burns the new plugs out so he is going to replace it.I'am a new owner to this truck and there is a switch somebody added to the dash and I wonder if this is what is making the relay stay on if the switch is left in the on position. This is probable cause to the problem to begin with. Please reply thanks

put a switch on the glow plus so I did have to wait till they shut down to start the engine. starting the engine with the plugs still on will make em distort and or fail. Also when the engine is warm. No need to bother with having the possibility of them turning on at all.

what I did was a 3 position switch,

the up position was a momentary contact and forced the glo plugs on.
the center position was all off (non connection)
the bottom position was to allow the glow plug controller to take over.

This was all wired into the glow plug relay so the switch didn’t take the big current the plugs draw.

when the light is out, the plugs are off. so it is then safe to start the engine.

Thumbs up Glow plug manual switch

Hi,
Here is a link to the "official" bypass switch for glow plug manual control, check and see if yours is hooked-up this way.You have to use a "temporary switch" that will spring back to the "off" position once you let it go or else you will fry your plugs.Hold the switch "on" for 5 or 6 seconds and fir it up.

The switch should be a momentary switch, I intend to leave mine there permenetly.

Thumbs up Switch

Me too,
Had too many problems with the original GP controller, it came on a few times while driving and fried the gp's, I was lucky none of the tips stayed in the cylinders!! I wouldn't change my manual switch for anything !!
