Going only on the specs you have listed in your gallry, I think 500 HP is a little optimistic for your combo. I'd say it's a solid 400-425, I'm not sure about 500 though. Do you have any dyno numbers? What times does the truck run?

Personally, I think you'd have a pretty tough time with an SRT-10. Ever raced a Lightning?

thats a nice truck and good looking motor 79ford460.i am doing a 460 swap into my 76 f-250 right now. my motors a high compression one out of a 71 lincoln, rated at 365 hp stock. with my changes i'm hoping for a solid 450hp with a little over 500# torque. i used to have an 01 lightning and i just don't see the old truck running with a lightning or srt witch is very close in performance to the L. i'm sure i'll try anyways. i will take the chance to embarass a hemi truck any chance i get. i would say try a lightning first since you have a very small chance of seeing the dodge on the road anyways. by the way, any one know what this is? it's the look on a hemi pickup owners face when getting passed by a 30 year old ford.

ok, well no i dont have dyno numbers yet. and i dont have any track times. But if this helps any my dad has a 03 mustang GT 5 speed, and we have raced. he beat me by 2 cars lenghts at the most. so im thinking its in the low low 14's maybe even high 13's. all he has done to it is H-pipe and cold air. It ran 13.8's stock

Seems like a really nice truck you have there 79Ford460, but in all honesty I don't think you'd win against either a Lightning or SRT10. Your probably making less horsepower than you think. Your truck probably weighs 500 lbs or so more than either of the newer trucks do. And not to be offensive, but all older trucks are about as aerodynamic as a refridgerator. Horsepower, aerodynamics, and weight are all against you. Also, low 14's with a GT, while impressive, is'int really a big deal when you consider that a full sized long bed HEMI has done the 1/4 mile in 13.9 with less than 100.00 in mods.

If you're gonna buy a Lightning...you're not gonna leave it stock for long. Unless you're the *poop* from Eddyville who's just leasing his..lol

I don't think you'd be able to take an L or the SRT-10. Ive got a 460 that is probably a bit hotter than yours in my '75 and it won't take my L. From around 30mph to about 90 maybe, but not a standing quarter. The L just hooks so much better. With drag radials on the 75 I could likely take the L, but not with street tires. The SRT-10's are a little more finicky. They are capable of running 12's, but I haven't heard of anyone running better than high 13's. Too much torque, they just won't hook and then the guy has to know how to row the gears. That's the beauty of the L, just stomp the loud pedal and you'll do very well every time.

79...Sounds like you have built a SWEET truck. But keep in mind...the 2WD Rams with the Hemi are dipping into the 14s right off the dealer lot. So if a Mustang GT beat you by a couple of car lengths, a Ram with the Hemi would likely beat you too...IF it's a 2WD. And the SRT-10...that sucker is running from a dead stop to 60 in under 5 seconds. You'd have to be generating some massive power and getting great hookups on takeoff to beat that.

I would however, say that with that setup you've got, there isn't much on the road that can take you. Only these new high-dollar cars and trucks....but I'm sure nobody has an older pickup as fast as yours. I like the method you took...bigger engine instead of smaller engine + nitrous or supercharger.

If your losing out to your dads Mustang the only chance you'd have is if he spun on the launch.
