Anybody Dumped A 250 for a 150?

I have been a die-hard Blue Oval Man for a long time and a reader on this forum for a long time too, so I thought it was about time I broke in with a little information request.

I currently drive a F250 4X4 CrewCab Stroke, which has been my standard rig style for a few years now. The Ovals I've owned are too numerous to list, and because I am a 50-60,000 mile a year guy, even though I do not haul alot, I've opted for the smokers... until MAYBE now. I really like the new F-150's style, and the test drives I've taken have been really nice. Unfortunately, with my height, I look directly into the B-pillar which is a little annoying. I had a 2001 Screw, which I really liked, and because I spend so much time in the saddle, I've been contemplating a nicer ride. My 250 is a loaded Lariat, but somehow I think I may like a nicer smoother ride. Have any of you opted to get rid of your Super Duties and bought new 2004 F-150's? I really hate to regress or downgrade in capacity and get-up-and-go, but the older I get and the more miles I put on, my fanny says, "get me a softer ride"! Whatcha all think?

I traded a 2001 Super Duty Larait 4x4 for a 2004 F150 FX4, and so far have really enjoyed the switch. Option for option (button for button) my FX4 has everything my "loaded" Lariat SD had, plus some! The only thing it doesn't have that my SD did, is heated seats (my girlfriend hates me for this). However, the ride is MUCH MUCH better, the cab still has the roomy feeling IMO (both trucks are extended cab). Power wise, that's a tough one. While the V10 had some 310hp and 425 #trq the trq curve was rather flat which made the truck boring to drive but it still had plenty of get up and go. The 2004 FX4 is rated at 300hp and 365 #trq with "drive by wire" technology AND a very quiet cab so while it does get on down the road it sometimes gives the illusion that it's not moving very fast. All in all I've not regreted one moment for trading the SD for the FX4, it's not nearly as bulky, fits in parking lots much better, has a smaller turning radius, rides like a dream, and I'll be honest I just simply love the interior (very modern feeling to me). I do sometimes miss the shear bruteness of the 250, especially the front end, but that's easily fixed on the 2004 F150 with the daystar leveling kit.

obviously my reccomendation is GO FOR IT!

Thanks for the input. I am afraid of "losing gained ground" if I go to the 150. I love to fire up my diesel and hear the turbo whine with the large exhaust, and if I did go the way of a 150, it would get duals within a few weeks of it's arrival. I have had almost 10-12 150's from about 1986 through 1998 and enjoyed every one. I have to say, though, there is something about driving a Super Duty... especially a smoker, that really turns heads. Thanks again for the reply. I really need a few more pushes in the 150 direction. I am about 6'-5", and the 150 seems to be a little "less roomy" for a guy my size.

Although I only have the 4x2 Supercab, I notice a lot of head turning. Even the "big boy loaded" truck drivers have to see what I'm driving and it's only the styleside. At one rest stop a Ford truck driver came up to me and expressed his surprise at my truck. He thought it was a 250 at first glance. He looked it over and liked the 2" higher bed and roomy interior. With a few mods I bet you'll still have the horsepower and looks you want. There is something about this truck no doubt about it.

i will be trading in my F-250LD for the new 04, when some used ones start showing up. i can't buy new, i drive too many miles a year, warrenty's dont mean much, to me, only last 6-12 months, and the hit i take is to much, with that said i drove one and fell in love, i get the ride of a F-150, the towing of an f-250. {well almost} this is a truck.

smokewagun, I'm 6'2" and I've got plenty of room. As someone else said I've also had a couple people ask me if this was the new 250, and they are shocked when I tell them it's just a 150.

Smokewagon,

If you put 50-60 kmiles on your truck each year, don't you want to stay with the diesel? I love my F150, but I don't put nearly that many miles a year on a vehicle. Perhaps you'll get the best of both worlds if they offer a diesel in the '05 F150.

I have no idea if this is going to be an option, so don't assume I have some sort of inside information!

I traded my '03 F250 5.4l for an 04. Better ride, more comforts,(40/20/40 vs bench seat) and I didn't really give up that my in capacity. GVW 8800 vs 8200, towing 7100 vs 9400, 260 hp vs 300 hp
