If you want more power better fuel econemy and that cool Big Rig sound get a MAC cold air intake kit or the like. If you are afraid to throw any and all caution to the wind then by all means keep it stock, limit your towing and dont accelerate hard or speed.

Guys, I hate to interrupt, but can someone please give me a brief overview on how to remove the stock air cleaner in the first place. I'm so frustrated I want to take a large tool to it, one that weighs about 3 lbs, but I also want to believe I'm a better mechanic than that. Thanks

Somewhere on this forum I saw some instructions. The way I got it off (because I had to replace the mass air meter with the larger K&N meter) was to start at the connection to the turbo and remove the tubes first, then the mass air tube then the air cleaner box. It was really hard anyway. It is jammed up so tight front and rear and stuck in gromments on the bottom. I finally got on top the radiator brace with my knees and jerked it out with both hands. I used to be able to curl 250 lbs and this air cleaner took all I had.

My truck below has the K&N that came with the Banks Turbo. I check the filter and intake passage on every oil change and so far have found no dirt/dust. This is not to say that in dusty conditions the intake would/wouldn't get dusty. Just my experience with fairly clean driving conditions.

For gasoline engines I use WIX filters. If I were to want more performance from a gasoline engine I would probably go with a K&N w/prefilter.

Just my .02

Mine is a FIPK that is as big as a PSD filter and has a large diameter mass air meter with it.

Not to start anything drastic or anything, but what do you guys think about the Fram Air Hog? I saw that thing at Wally World the other day. Looks to me like Fram wants to make some money with an oiled filter too. Just looking gor comments and additional info.

I think all of would like to see legitimte filtration test data from an independent lab with the stock filter as the control sample. We would like to see air flo data with comparison to stock filters and K&N, air aid, and other major performance air filters. Most of us are interested in improving flo with the improvement in horsepower and mileage. Most of us also would like to make an informed decision on how much engine longevity we are sacrificing if any.
