You are quite welcome, I asked a ton of people what the difference was.
I must have crawled under 50 trucks with a tape measure to see what was going on.
I finally figured out the Sterling had two different spring perch dimensions on the 54" axle, one for the 37.5" frame and one for the 34" frame. For a while that was getting me because one had duals and one did not. Then one day I looked at the frames, and a light went on.

Some of the motor home chassis had the same 58" axle, but you gotta watch the spring perches on them. I have seen a 40" frame on the motor home chassis that used the 58" axle housing with single wheels.

The only one that will bolt right in is the factory flare side dually with a pickup bed.

Hey Cowboy, I will look Monday and get numbers etc off of the two axles. I know my dads has 3.55 but I don`t know if it has ABS. I haven`t been under mine to see exactly what it has because I bought the truck to rebuild later on. It is a 1986 F350 4x4 that someone put a dually axle under the back. I will be putting single wheels back on it and I`m not sure what year axle they put under it. I know the truck came with 3.55s. Do you need the ABS? If I don`t get back to you in a few days, email me. My dads real sick and I`m in and out alot.

It just so happens that the truck I bought has a flat bed on it. It needs a little work, but nothing major. Another thing, it looks to me like the bed was built for a cab & chassis. They spaced the bed rails out to mate up with the truck frame rails. It looks to me like the dually wheels would stick out about two inches on each side of the bed. I only have one wheel on each side to move it around with so I am guestimating at that. It wouldn`t be too hard to extend the sides. I had a friend of mine that wanted the bed but has never came to get it. I am wanting to do some house cleaning or should I say parts truck cleaning and get rid of everything I don`t foresee needing in the future. We are only about 80-90 miles apart so let me know if/when you`d like to come look at it. If you might be interested in the bed, I will call my friend and tell him either to hurry up and come get it or it`s going on the sale block. By the way, I have some kinfolk in Alvin. Small world huh?

Dually flat bed is 90" wide deck.
Cab and chassis flatbed is 86" wide deck.
Most of the prebuilt flatbeds have 34" frame rails.
1.5" x 3" channel laid across the frame make dandy tool box holders and bed holders.
Lay the channel web down with holes to line up with the bed bolt holes you already have. A few beads with the mig welder to attach the bed rails to the channel and you are ready to go. If you want to take it off, pull six bolts and lift it off.

Most but not all, of the F250 HD & SD, F350 HD & SD, and the older F450's and F550's had 10.25" Sterling rears.
I have seen a few Dana 60, 70 and 80 in the above mix, but I do not know if any of them were factory setups. A lot of the owners did not know what I was talking about when I asked.

Must be something wrong with me, everyone else looks at the top of the truck first, I grab a tape measure and crawl under it first. If the drive line is there, the rest is OK, if the drive line is not there, the rest does not matter.
A bunch of the late model trucks with the 17" or 19" wheels have a 10.5" not called Sterling, Sterling rear now. Can never remember that name, it is to new for me to look at, besides it is still made in the Sterling plant, name changed though. I think all the 450 and up now have Dana 80's.

I have looked at so many I can just tell. I can not describe the differences as I sit here though. Lots of trucks I have looked at I never got to see the door sticker. Like go to a truck lot and crawl under a bunch and look. Tags will give you clues if they are still on the axle.

Hey horton, If youand One cowboy can hook up, go for it, don't wait on me, cause if looks as if my plans have been thrown out the window. Maybe I'll just go back to single wheels.

I`ve got two of them anyway. One looks to be a Sterling and one looks to be a Dana. Both dually axles. Cowboy, I didn`t get to the pics today but I did get some measurements on the bed and the axles. I don`t have them with me right now. I will post tommorrow.

FireMarshall,
I know where a dually rear is. If you are still looking for one let me know and I'll check it out for ratio and such. I live in Gravel Switch, Ky which is just 65 miles south of Louisville. A much better option than shipping....
