Lots of Questions

For the first time in my life, I'm considering buying a F250 SuperDuty with the Turbo-Diesel.

My new job has me commuting 200 miles per day. My present vehicle is a '97 Ford Expy 4x4. It gets the best highway mileage I've ever had in a truck- 17MPG. But the vehicle is getting up there in miles (90K) and besides, my wife wants it. So, I'm looking for a new vehicle. I've loved the SuperDuty since it was introduced in '99.

I want stout reliability. Will the powerstroke give me that? What kind of mileage can I expect out of a SuperCab 4x4 with the automatic? How 'bout the 6-speed? How 'bout the same configs in a 4x2 truck?

Because I will be putting 50K miles per year on it, I want something that will last. Is it the powerstroke?

Thanks in advance for any and all help.

Lots of Questions

I have a 2002 reg cab 4x4 psd, and I love it.I have alittle over 12k miles in just over 5 months with no problems.A diesel is more maintainence but in the long run it will pay off.I get between 17-20 mpg, and diesel around here(plymouth mass) is cheaper than gas.If you can live with the noise and smell(which you wont notice after a week or so) than I would go for it.My personnal opinion would be to get the 4x4, even if you dont use it atleast you'll have it.

200 miles a day? dang....thats alot of driving.

I get 20-22 mpg at near 60mph. that is in the summer, now that they have the additive in the diesel for winter, it has dropped to 17-19. You will be real happy with this truck as time drags on.

Yeah, it's 100 miles from Albuquerque to Los Alamos. Altitude wise, it would be going from an elevation of 5200 ft. to 7200 ft. So, If you do the math that's 52K miles per year. Add personal driving and I could be looking at 60K per year easy. It's for that reason that I'm considering a diesel. At the end of 5 years (by the time I really owned it) the vehicle would have around 300K miles on it.

Lots of Questions

I drive 250-300 miles per day (depending on where my job site is) and my 97 PSD just keeps strokin on. I'd recomend an oil bypass system to lengthen the time between oil changes and make your motor happier. Another good mod for folks who drive as much as you and I do would be a larger fuel tank or an auxillary tank.

My truck is a crew cab 4x4 long bed F-350 and tips the scales at around 8500-9000lbs on any given day. With 4:10 gears and 35" mud tires I usualy see around 15 mpg. A gasser with the same specs would see mpg #rs in the mid single didgits:P

The Powerstroke is deffinatly a good buy, and if properly taken care of can last more than 300,000 miles before any "major" work (like a rebuild) needs to be done. Keep clean fluids in her, keep the SCA levels good in the coolant, and the fuel tanks full!
