4.2 vs 4.0 ohv

Just curious! I owned a '93 Ranger SC 4.0 5sp and put 170,000 trouble free miles on it. (had bearings put in the tranny at 130K..dried out rubber plugs let some of the oil out) Other than that-NO PROBLEMS whatsoever. I just picked up an '01 F150 4.2 5sp. I like the truck very much but I'm curious how the 4.2 stacks up against the 4.0 ohv in terms of reliability and durability. Want to know what to expect. Thanks!

Hey RR, Welcome,

Although I am not familiar with the 4.0 enough to make comparison, here is a thread that will definetely help you out.

I was kinda wondering the same thing. I have a 93 Ranger 4.0, I like looking through this forum because you guys over here seem to know how to get v-6's running good.

Jimmy Dean is gaining momentum as a positive member of FTE.
Well, the older ones I think ran alot faster and lasted longer than the new ones. I know I beat the ever-livin poop out of one in Houston. MY first drag race and got smoked. I say prolly a good 2 seconds at least....granted he was an ext cab but.......still....
