Ranger...endless possibilities?

I have a 99 Ranger and I love the truck, but it'd be nice to have an eight in it. So anyways, to the point, which engine do you guys think would be an ideal choice? My personal thoughts would be a modular engine like a 4.6 or an older pushrod windsor (short or tall deck). It makes most sense to me to keep it fuel injected if it was so equipped and use a modern computer shifted tranny if it is a fuelie...and use a C4 if it isnt...
