Deep Box Good or Bad
Hey guys one thing about the new 150 has that nobody else has is a deeper box several inches deeper. Whats your thoughts out there about the deeper box. I know many of you out there have the new truck what do you think. Is it a plus for you or a minus. Thanks for your thoughts

As with everything, it has it's pros and cons.
It is a lot tougher to reach anything in the bed from the sides or back without opening the tailgate. That's my only con.
For a plus, I have an Undercover bed cover on the truck. Because it is deeper, I don't have to remove it as readily for large objects in the bed. I can stack two tires and still close the lid. On my old truck, stacked, they were above the lip of the bed.

Works good for me. Since it's taller I can fit more under my bed cover without removing it.
As far as accessing things from the side I can't really comment. I've always had trucks with suspension lifts so this is actually low for me. I know others on here were complaining about it being to high to reach over into the bed from the side. I hardly ever reach over the side of the bed anyways because of the little scratches that can get on the paint from shirt buttons, zippers, jean rivets, belt buckles, etc. I've had almost all black trucks so they're more noticable so I usually just get into the bed from the tailgate when I need to get something out.

Baja, I agree, the extra height makes a lot of things fit under a cover. And I really don't want to be moving things over the side. Hell, I can't even reach the very top center of the hood to wash it without standing on something (I'm 5'8"), so a couple of extra inches in the bed seems good!

I don't own one of course, but you don't really need to own one just to note the obvious advantages and disadvantages of the bigger bed.
Advantage = more volume means more cargo utility.
Disadvantage = reaching for that one item in the middle of the bed means either going through the trouble of opening the tailgate and climbing in to get it, or jumping up on the side of the bed to reach in and retreive the item.
The extra deep bed seems out of proportion to the the rest of the truck. Also the big sheet metal sides with small windows seems disproportionate to me. These are the main reasons the truck only looks good with a long bed in my opinion, as the long bed helps to make the steep sides look somewhat in proportion again.
JMO of course, and glad to be of help .

And this is why God (well, Ford actually) made the flareside! The deeper bed is a good thing, but the flareside offers a good method to reach in there...built-in steps ahead and behind the rear wheels. Plus, it breaks up the wall of straight steel on conventional boxes. And between the wheel wells, you still have almost 50" so you can lay down the plywood or drywall you're picking up from Home Depot.

I haven't hauled any mulch or dirt in mine yet, but something tells me that I should be able to get a little more in there with the deep bed. Of course it's only 5.5 feet, so that kinda offsets the new height. I like the deeper bed also for what it does for the look of the truck

I think the high sides on the bed and the lowered almost chopped roof line is what makes the truck so appealing. The 03 and earlier super crews really looked out of proportion, a little like the new Titan does. The 04 looks great, like an old coupe. It's a little hard to reach over the side of any 4x4. It's not like I'm gonna put things in the bed anyhow. Thats what the wifes explorer is for. It's just hard to shovel the mulch off her carpet.
