What kind of engine ?

Need a new engine for my 93 E-150.
The old one is a 302 w/AOD.
Could I replace it with a 4.6L or maybe a 5.8 ??

Thanks

Jarl

5.8 would be the easier of the two.

I have a 302 in my 91 Club Wagon. If it goes, I'd drop a 351 in its place.

I think that's a worthwhile swap considering--
You can go with a 5.8 if:
You're shift pattern is P-R-N-OD-D-1(the hydraulc AOD)

It may run OK with the 5.0 computer, but don't bank on it.
You'll need the 5.8 computer from a truck/van that had a 5.8 with C6 auto.(Good luck.)
87-88 would be the best years to find this computer since most 89-later 5.8 were ahead of E4OD's.
The EFI 5.8s never had AOD or AODE behind them only C6 or E4OD.
Your wiring harness should work with the 5.8 and computer, although the 5.8 doesn't need the knock sensor or power steering pressure switch.

You're best bet for the engine, is to get a complete unit since the intake and exhaust manifolds are different. The accessory mounting brackets are different although you can use your old accessories.

Here's the deal on the '93 AOD.
