Retrofited Banks Turbo intake on 6.9

Hi,
Well I removed this big old Banks Turbo Air cleaner housing, and brought the weight of the truck down 40 pounds.
I wanted to get more air into the turbo and engine, but no one made anything to fit my 83'. So I made one myself, I removed the old housing and left the rubber reducer at the turbo.
Then I did a little plumbing with black PVC pipe, I used 3" pipe and a 3 1/2" K&N Cone shaped filter. I made a port for the Anti-Depression valve, and aimed the filter down to the old air intake tube.
Two things happened right away, at an idle you could hear your self think. And at 60mph I could even hear the radio. Now you can hear it sucking air, and it feels like it has more power. I'll be able to tell more the next time I take out the travel trailer.

If anyone wants to see it, I added it to my Gallery

Spectramac is gaining momentum as a positive member of FTE. Spectramac is gaining momentum as a positive member of FTE.
I checked out your pics. Not bad. Banks really thought he had something there didn't he! The only way you could improve on your new setup is if you run it clear out in front of the radiator to get the coldest air. I know, that would have been next to impossible with that size piping. Two thumbs up!

Well my next idea is to do just that, I'm going to have a metal tube bent to get me as close to the cool air as possible. I want to come up with a filter housing for one of the New X-Stream filters from K&N. I would like to get it just behind the grill, But it sure makes it quiet for some reason. What I really want to hook up is a Intercooler.
