Shop Manual vs. Body Assembly Manual

I was wondering if I should get a body assembly manual to break down the body in great detail. There are some panels on my bed that I'm going to have to make, so I need illustrations of those parts.

I was wondering if the full Shop Manual covers the same information as far as body and trim breakdown, or if it just illustrates what comes apart and how. I'm going to need full skeletal info of the cab and bed. I wanted to know ahead of time, so I don't waste money buying duplicate information!

I have both, and the body assembly manual is much more detailed. It's going to be coming in handy very soon for me. Pick up the body one, its great. -4speed

Andrew, I don't know why I didn't just call you and ask. Hey, I have a pair of nice, rust-free doors for Daisy from my parts truck! Until I get them in primer, she's going to look ghetto w/her Turquoise body and black and white doors! HA! Maybe I'll stick a gumball on top!

Hey rustfree doors! Score, I could use some of those! Speaking of ghetto, my truck looks like a brand new corvette somebody left in the ghetto too long... in pieces. -4speed

I have been looking for over 6 months now for what you are talking about. Everything I find seems to cover many years and the 48 only partially.

Where did you find your manuals? What (exactly) are they called, so I can search for them?

Thanks

Actually I have three books that I use.
1. 1949-50-51 Ford F-Series Trucks Shop Manual (Everything for the 1948 is covered.)
2. Ford Truck 1948 - 54 Chassis Parts and Accessories Catalog Series 1 thru 6 100 thru 600.
3. 1944 - 1952 Ford Body Parts Catalog Passenger Cars and Trucks.

Check "Moter Haven" on this Site.
I got mine at Mac's Antique Auto Parts.

Thank you 4tl8ford.
I have seen a couple of these, but never bought them.
I was unsure how beneficial they would be. And after buying others that only include some relevant information, I hated to buy more without knowing how relevant they would be.
Time to go hunting...

Thanks again.

Now that I have them, I wouldn't be without.
I know I will find them particulary useful when I start the reassembly process, three years of teardown, so far, a severe case of CRS, and, and, Oh Well You get the point.

Where did you guys find a 48-52 Body assembly manual? I've looked everywhere and can't find anything but the shop manual. I don't need any of the mechanical info. Looking for the details body stuff that gets down to every nut and bolt. I want to put it together like they did at the factory!

Me too! Though I have a 56. I have never been able to find a body assembly manual for a 56. I suppose a body assembly manual for a 53-55 would be a good source of info for most of my truck but I haven't found one of those either. I have shop manual and body assembly manual for my 71 Cutlass and use both when working on that. That is when I started looking for the B.A.M. for the 56. Can you guys tell where I can get one?
