Someone ???
did some test and there was NO difference in performance, gas mileage, and DID quiet down the turbo whistle WITH the cat installed...

and besides it's a Federal emission law you're breaking by removing it...
not worth it to me...'

All of the above plus before I installed my exhaust, I asked my dealer (who is fairly mod friendly) if the exhaust would void warranty. The service director said that I would be fine if I left the cat in place but would not if I removed it. Since they work on my truck...oil changes etc., I did the cat back and am happy with it.

Take it off...just in spite of the ****ing tree-huggers and the federal gov't...lol. All jokes aside, probably not worth the multiple risks already listed by everyone below. has anyone looked though the new cat? (6.0 psd)......I held it up to the sun and looked through....could barley see any light....jadadamsjr; I cant believe there would be no performance/mileage difference...the thing has got to be super restrictive. I MIGHT know someone who MIGHT have hollowed the cat out, cut 4" hole in each side and welded the 4" stainless pipe to both sides and "kept the cat in"....sounds great....oh,... MIGHT sound great. Just my two cents.

The cat is not very restrictive at all. The fact that you can see through it AT ALL bares that out. You want to see "super restrictive" try looking through a cat on a gas motor. Banks Power told me that only 2 hp and no measurable MPG was gained from removal of the cat. Your "MIGHT" friend most likely HURT his MPG and performance by doing that.

fredsf250td

i get my new 04 f350 cc 6.0 6 speed wednesday. I have an extra cat and will try it both ways when i install my hog performance 4" turbo back exhaust. l expect, like banks said, slight gains but no "hurt" in MPG and performance. I don't have access to a dyno but I can calculate MPG. I let you know....fun stuff!

All I'm saying is that I recall someone with dyno's etc...
did a lot of testing with and without and noticed hardly ANY difference...

and from what others have said removing the cat REALLY increases the turbo whine...
mine is QUITE loud enough with the cat in place with my turbo back for my taste...

to each his own... I'm no tree hugger, but the cat is back in

Now if you want to talk MTBE or reformulated gas .....

The dyno test we have run show NO difference.......except noise and a possible problem with Ford. NOT worth it. This issue is stuck in the "old" days school of thinking, we all had to yank the cat as fast as possible to make more power. It is just not that way any more.

All of our pulls were in stock mode with cat in cat out!

ok, ok....hard to let go of the "old" days....after looking through that thing its hard to believe....but if that is what the test show then i might as well stay legal. How about EGT? In these test you did were the temps monitored?

No difference with EGT on the dyno, however the muffler is a big one to keep things a bit warm. IMO and again I say IMO from the cat back is worth the investment in both a mild increase in HP and the bigget of all...........lower EGT's. That is my concern with any pulling motor.

Again IMO

Tim, (however the muffler is a big one to keep things a bit warm)

I've got that covered, I have a 4" hog performance stainless turbo back kit sitting in garage waiting for the truck. And even though I'm new, I been around this site long enough to respect your opinion. thanks for the feedback.
