plug gap with pertronix?

I just installed a pertronix igniter 2 and flamethrower coil, eliminated resistor wire so coil uses full 12 volts, was wondering how wide of plug gap others are running with this set up?

When I ran a pertronix 1 I had spark plugs set to 35 I didn't try to set them maybe I should have. It ran good their when the pertronix failed I installed a mallory unilight ran good at 35 then I opened them up to 40 and may try 45 opening up to 40 made a noticable increase in power and is running cleaner. Let us know what you find out.

Question

Why are you guys removing the balast resister? Does this help the spark with the pertronix/flamethrower combo? I never heard of this before. John

plug gap with Pertronix

The instructions that came with either the Pertronix or flamethrower said to remove the resistor, although it was hard to find that little piece of info. I was more than happy to get rid of a couple extra wires and that hot piece of ceramic.
As I understand it the flamethrower has the required resistance built into it. However if you forget and leave the ignition on, the coil may overheat and become damaged.
