Mercruser 7,3 diesel

Hello again.. Still not worked out my smoke problem and hard starting..

I have alot of smoke when i start the engine grey , white , and black at once .

On idle its grey almost white.. No coolant is disappearing.
Running fine at idle.. Will not get warm... under 40 centigrade..Why??

Today i tryed to decrease the fuel setting with 2 flats on the pump.. No difference there.. But it got litle more difficult starting..
This shall be the same from a boat engine to an car engin or what??
Engine is 270 hp and 742 Nm of Torque.

Anyone with a good idea..??

Has the injection pump ever been worked on ? The way you are talking, there is a problem with the timing. The hard start could be the glow plug system (if equipped). Get someone with a timing system to look at your injection timing. I dont know where the timing should be for marine application but the land engines are about 5 degrees advanced. Also, I didnt know the engine in the boat had a cooling system, I thought it would get cooled by drawing water from the lake and cycle it thru the system.

Is it possible someone's got the pump gear out of time? Does it eat fuel like it's going out of style?

Sounds to me like a clear cut temperature regulation problem...ie thermostat...if it won't get over 40c it is way too cold. It should run more like 80c. Before you can deal with a smoke and low power problem you have to get the water to the proper temperature.
