crazy exhaust idea??

I know this is going to sound a little off, but here goes. I am looking to putting dual exhaust on my old girl, and can't convince the wife that the going rate for ram horns is a fair price. If had some car exhaust manifolds, will they switch sides and exit in front and instead in the rear? I can find these for an approved of price. Thanks for the help.

Look in my gallery at the album called namesake and it will show you a picture of the exhaust pipe bent like 312 was telling you. It's on a 54 mercury car but will look the same on your truck.

Just one other thought if you have this done make sure they keep the pipe away from your fuel pump.

That looks good to me! No one sees my engine anyways and that is cheaper than new manifolds. Thanks for the info. and pics.

There is presently a set of horns on ebaymotors, if you may be interested, they look in excellent condition, compared to the ones I presently have.

Years ago people used to cut inline 6 exhaust manifolds in half and weld a flange on the front half to have dual exhaust. I did the same to my exhaust manifolds and it worked great. The flange off a passenger side manifold was cut off and welded to the drivers side, and I still have the crossover pipe. The drivers side manifold looks like a car manifold. See if you cant find someone that could do that, and it would probably be the cheapest way to go. All it cost me was a right side manifold from a junkyard.

In my part of the woods old y-blocks are getting very hard to come by. I bought one out of a wrecking yard a couple of years ago and that was the only one they had seen in 10 or 12 years. Of course that engine had car manifolds and I gave those away. Oh well, live and learn. Any thing I should know about welding on cast iron before I do it or have someone do it??

unless you know someone or can weld it yourself it may cost you more than they are worth.

I am no great welder so I would have to have someone do it for me. I once had a local machine shop weld the mounting flanges back on a pair of manifolds. By the time it was done it was close to $300, and the things didn't work out. I am betting that shipping from down under on cast iron would be pretty steep also. Thanks for all the info.

I think that someone is reproducing the rams horn manifold in the states. But they are $600.00pr. They have an add in Y-block Magazine. Have you considered headers? They aren't too expensive.

Yea, I have considered headers. I bought the truck for only $500 and have a hard time spending that kind of money for better sound. The best part of the header argument is better flow and thus better power. I am still mulling this over.
