C8OE, 428 CJ heads. Hard to find need hardened seats installed. Best iron head to port.
C8AE or D2TE C8AE need hardened seats installed D2TE already has them.
I have heard that the EDEl heads where based on the C8AE's. Just a rumor though.
Some of the guru's will correct me if I made any errors.

I'd look for something early, like C1AE - C4AE. They should flow good, and porting them should make them flow better. DSC has 'em for $180 apiece.

The early heads have large ports that don't match the newer intakes. The Edelbrock Perf RPM has 1.94" tall runners where the early heads have 2.34" tall ports.

Sounds like he will have to do some grinding. Really, that's probably why they're only $180 apiece. Somewhere there must be an intake to match 'em, but where I dont know. I'll do some looking and maybe get back. With the money saved on the heads, you could buy one heck of an intake.

hes full of it, you can port FE heads to edelbrock specs, if you spent the time on them, without porting my heads i wouldnt be anywhere near 375hp, DD2K says only 405hp with the edel heads on my setup, and without porting my stock heads only around 340hp, so that gives you an idea of what porting FE heads can do.

i dont think theres a head out there that if you port and polish it thats its not going to help, thats commom sense, bigger ports means better air flow, im sure if you didnt know what you were doing you could screw them up, but whoever that mechanic is id stay away from him cuz it sounds like he knows as much about FE's as a 2 year old.

"Well I built a Chevy 350 before, how hard could it be?" -anonymous engine builder

Where are you looking for those heads russ? There's a guy up by me (junkyard) that's got a set of D2TE-AA's just sitting in the back of a junked out bus. Loose, ready to go. I doubt he'd want much of anything for 'em. I doubt if he'd even take $20 for both of 'em. If you want the name and location of the guy, I can e-mail anyone that requests.
